Ministry of Foreign Affairs have revealed that Maldivians will now receive on-arrival visas from 40 member nations of the Commonwealth.

Director of Communication at the Foreign Ministry, Miuvan Mohamed revealed to "One Online" that 40 member nations of the Commonwealth will now provide on-arrival visas to the Maldives.

Miuvan noted that the countries that grant Maldivians on-arrival visa are countries with a certain agreement with the Commonwealth. He highlighted that these 40 countries provided on-arrival visas to the Maldives previously as well.

Following the Maldives' exit from the Commonwealth in 2016, Miuvan noted that there were some travel restrictions to the countries that provided on-arrival visas. As such, some countries had imposed obtaining a visa through an online application as well.

Miuvan noted that such restrictions are not there anymore and that the 40 countries include countries that were not there before as well.

Following the acceptance of Maldives back into the Commonwealth, Maldivians will now be able to apply for Commonwealth scholarships as well while all diplomatic missions in member nations have been renamed to High Commission.
