Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions have decided to dismiss President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Dr. Ali Shameem, Vice President of CSC Shaheed Mohamed along with two other members.
The committee made their decision following discussions with 13 cabinet ministers who were summoned to the committee today to discuss the works of CSC.
After the said discussions, the committee decided to submit the dismissal of President Dr. Ali Shameem, Vice President Shaheed Mohamed, Member Zakariyya Hussain and Member Ibrahim Shaheeg, to the Parliament.
The committee decided against the removal of the only female member of the five member commission, Fathimath Amira. Amira was appointed to the commission during the current government, while all others were appointed during the previous administration.
During the committee meeting today, cabinet ministers had noted that several things needed to be improved on the side of the CSC. Some Ministers noted that the hiring and firing of employees have been put through practices outside the regulations.
Several Ministers also noted that the President of the CSC had been active in political activities and events as well, going so far as giving speeches during such events.
Hence the Ministers had noted that the CSC had lost public trust, and is not properly functional at all.
