Opposition Progressive Coalition has called for the resignation of the Home Minister, Imran Abdulla and the Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed.

A statement issued by the coalition last night said that they condemn the unlawful orders from the Home Minister to the Police that orders actions outside the professional standards of the police and smears the name of the Maldives Police Service.

The coalition also condemned the Police Commissioner for implementing the orders from the Home Minister that are outside the binds of the Constitution.

The statement said that they believe no matter the circumstances of an arrest, the suspects should be dealt with dignity and any assault and deprivation of human decency is outside the police code of ethics.

And so, the coalition called for the resignation of the Home Minister and the Commissioner of Police.

The opposition coalition also called on the Police Service not to follow orders of their superiors if they are outside the Constitution.
