Former Gender Minister Shidhatha Shareef has said that she has not been negligent in her responsibilities as the Minister and added that her resignation today was in the best interest of current circumstances.

Shidhatha, who was appointed as the Gender Minister on an Adhaalath Party slot said this in a statement issued today.

In her statement, she stressed that she had tried to serve best to the highest of her capabilities in accordance to the guidance and advise provided by the President's Office.

Shidhatha noted that even with numerous challenges, she believes that the Ministry has had several achievements in terms of establishing policies for the betterment of social protection in the Maldives including women, children and people with disabilities.

She asserted that the decision to resign was also partly due to the fact that she nor her team is negligent in what is currently happening in the country.

She further assured that even though she has resigned as the Gender Minister, she would remain serving the public and the nation.
