Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has said that a bridge to link Malé and Thilafushi was a vision of President Mohamed Nasheed and that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would make it a reality.

Minister Fayyaz’s statement came in response to a tweet by Former Economic Minister and sitting MP for Maavah, Mohamed Saeed.

MP Saeed had said that linking the greater Malé region till Thilafushi is a vision of Former President Abdulla Yameen, who had finalized the design and sources of funding for the mega project as well. He further added that the current government had protested all of this previously.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had stated yesterday that the surveys for the project have already begun.

In his presidential address during the opening of Parliament, President Solih noted that the survey process will wrap up this year with field work on the bridge expected to begin during the year as well.

In his tweet, Minister Fayyaz denied that the vision for the Greater Malé Bridge is not President Yameen’s and added that even the Sinamalé Bridge was a vision of President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, works of which began during the Presidency of Nasheed.
