Vice President of PPM and MP for Naifaru constituency, Ahmed Shiyam, has said that the judicial system in the country cannot be reformed without changing the structure of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Criticizing the government’s efforts to reform the judicial system on CNM’s “Ithurukaafu” program last night, MP Shiyam said that the judicial system is being heavily influenced by politics and he does not believe that a just judicial system has been established.
He said that a just judicial system cannot be established without bringing changes to how the JSC is currently structured.
“I don’t believe changing a judge is changing the system. And if political influence is to be removed from that (judicial) system, the composition of the Judicial Service Commission needs to be changed.” MP Shiyam said.
MP Shiyam said that people who led political actions and had major involvement in the election campaign of the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih are now appointed as Supreme Court judges.
