Kaafu Atoll Dhiffushi Island Council has said that a large portion of the island’s Social Center is worn out beyond use.

Talking to One Online, the Vice President of the Dhiffushi Island Council, Ibrahim Mubashir said that a large portion of the island’s Social Center run under the Island Council, has been damaged beyond use due to woodworms.

He said that the social center is an old building on the island with limestone walls and now exposes leaks when it rains.

Mubashir said that the repairs of the Social Center are estimated at about MVR 1 million and so the people of the island wants to develop a modern Youth Center instead.

And so, a project has been proposed to the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof.

Dhiffushi has a population of about a thousand people with booming local tourism consisting of over 15 guesthouses.
