Government has noted that this was a time of great concern as the coronavirus is spreading rapidly across the globe and has appealed all to refrain from spreading rumours and false information regarding the situation.

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid made the appeal on behalf of the government during a press conference held today by the President's Office.

The Minister noted that the current situation is directly linked to the well being and safety of the citizens. Hence he had appealed to share clear and true information regarding the latest happenings. He also stressed not to let rumours take control and spread among the public which may cause widespread panic and fear.

Minisher Shahid further noted that the media plays a crucial role in this, and had requested all medias to be part of the government's work in handling the situation. He stressed that the help of media was needed to relay all and any necessary information regarding the current global outbreak.

During the press conference the government noted that no suspected individual has been found as of yet in the Maldives but have taken extreme precautionary measures against the virus.
