Maldivian government has decided to convert Funadhoo into an isolation island in the event of a coronavirus outbreak in the Maldives.

Speaking during a press conference, Health Minister Abdulla Ameen noted that the coronavirus is a dangerous virus that is spread and contracted very easily. He added that the government has finalised a number of measures and steps to be taken in the event of an outbreak of the virus in the Maldives.

As such, a quarantine facility has already been set up in Hulhumale' while Funadhoo has been allocated as a dedicated isolation island in case of widespread.

Minister Ameen further noted that screenings for coronavirus are in level with the guidelines provided by World Health Organisation (WHO). He added that if a suspected case is found, arrangements have been made to confirm the presence of the virus through a series of tests with WHO.
