Abdulla Munaz has been removed from his position as the Commissioner of Prisons.

Sources claim that Munaz has been removed from the position, and that Ahmed Mohamedfulhu who was serving as the Inspector of Correctional Services have been appointed as the new Commissioner.

Munaz has been notified of his dismissal by the President's Office. The official notice was served to him today, which was signed off by the Chief of Staff, Ali Zahir.

His tenure as the Commissioner of Police was filled with controversy including two occasions where the Parliament had taken attention of confrontations with inmates in the prisons. In addition to this, ruling coalition members have also highlighted that the prisons were in poor conditions.

The newly appointed Commissioner of Prisons, Ahmed had also previously reiterated the statement.
