Maldives Police Service has broken down the door to the flat in Hulhumale’ where the father of the two-year-old girl who was raped in Gaafu Alifu Kanduhulhudhoo, was staying.

Officers forced their way into Hulhumale’ Flat 108 after attempting to open the door for a long time. People have been gathering near the flat since late evening with allegations that the father of the two-year-old rape victim was in the house.

One Online has learned that the flat belongs to the grandmother of the victim on her father’s side.

The situation near the flat heated before things were thrown at the flat and destroying a window of the flat. Journalists have reported that police used pepper spray to disperse the crowd.

One Online journalist on the scene reports that officers are operating inside the flat police vehicles are at the ready outside the flat. Photos taken by the journalists show police officers talking to an unidentified man.

Police Media have confirmed that confrontations between the police and the participants of the rally has injured one officer who is currently seeking medical attention at a hospital.

Earlier this evening, Gender Minister Shidhatha said that the two-year-old child is getting medical attention in the protection of the Ministry.

Police arrested the grandfather and great-grandfather of the victim in Kanduhulhudhoo this morning in connection to the rape. A special team of police along with a team from the Ministry of Gender and Family are in the island investigating further.
