MP for Dhaandhoo constituency, Yauqoob Abdulla, has said that he has received information that the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) is going to give the operations of the seaplane terminal currently in development, to Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA).

Expressing his concern on the situation on Twitter, Yauqoob said that if the terminal is given to a third-party in way that generates a loss to the state, he would not hesitate to hold them responsible. MP Yauqoob said that the parliament’s financial committee is going to investigate and take action. MP Yauqoob is a member of the committee.

TMA is the largest seaplane operators in the world with the US company, Bain Capital and China’s Tempus Group as the major shareholders.

There have been rumors of the new seaplane terminal being developed at Velana International Airport is going to be given to TMA to run operations before the rumors were denied by the MACL. However, the company has yet to deny the allegations this time.

MACL is spending USD 55 million to develop the new terminal.
