Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed, has said that no other party aside from MDP would know how to run a de-centralized system of government.
Nasheed made the statement in Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo as part of MDP’s campaign trail for the Local Council Election.
The former President said that MDP wants to win the Local Council Elections to implement the government agenda in the islands to benefit the people. And no other political party aside from MDP would know how to do that.
Highlighting that the local government system was introduced in previous MDP administration, Nasheed said that the following government destroyed that system to the point where no island can run its own projects and all authority and power was collected up in the capital.
Former President Nasheed said that MDP aims to strengthen the de-centralized system of local government and has always advocated for it. He said that no one else knows how to do it and the other parties does not have that thinking.
