Ministry of Education has said that books will be digitized in 40 schools this year.

Speaking at a press conference by the ministry regarding the commencement of the new academic year, State Minister, Fathimath Naseer, said that from the four key stages, books will be digitized in ten schools in every key stage.

The new national curriculum is based on five key stages with the first key stage from grades 1-3, followed by the second key stage from 4-6. The secondary phase begins with key stage three from grades 7 and 8 with grades 9 and 10 on key stage four and the grades 11 and 12 on key stage five.

Fathimath Naseer said that ten schools have been selected for digitization of books from key stages one through four and the schools with pilot the digitization process.

She said that the books are being digitized because information technology is an important part of the curriculum and would make the best use of the tablets provided for the students.
