Former Islamic Minister and the current Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that the current Supreme Court Judge, Husnu Suood, played a political game as the President of the Presidential Commission Investigation Disappearances and Deaths and needs to be removed from the Supreme Court.

The Commission Investigating Deaths have filed their case with the Maldives Police Service to investigate the former Islamic Minister with allegations of giving false testimony to the Commission during an investigation.

Shaheem took to Twitter last night saying that since the Commission’s case sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office was rejected, it shows that Suood played a political game and need to be removed from his position as a Supreme Court Judge.

Dr. Shaheem said that Suood has lost all integrity and needs to be prosecuted for releasing the Commission report without completing the investigation.

He said that the authority of the Commission has been abused to blame political figures and putting the blame in the murder of Dr. Afrashim Ali on religious leaders to hide the true assailants.

The report from the Commission Investigating Deaths made certain suspicions against Dr. Shaheem stating that it was he who provided the slot on TV for Dr. Afrashim on the night of his murder and there were inconsistencies in Dr. Shaheem’s testimony.

After reviewing the report and the message sent by Dr. Shaheem on the night in question, the National Security Committee decided that Dr. Shaheem’s testimony to the investigation was false.

Dr. Shaheem is also among those to be prosecuted according to the report by the Commission.

Following the allegations against him, Dr. Shaheem has said that his testimony to the Commission investigation was true and described the Security Committee’s accusations as defamation. Dr. Shaeem said that he would pursue for damages against the Committee when he is sure justice will be served.
