Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that a suspected case of measles have been found in the Maldives.
The agency noted that the patient in question is currently being tested for measles to confirm the case.
HPA appealed to complete the vaccination dozes to prevent cases like measles, and added that the doze should be completed at the soonest if a doze is missed from the deadline.
World Health Organisation (WHO) reported in 2017 that the Maldives had eradicated measles completely.
Paediatrician Dr. Ahmed Faisal however reported of the suspected case of measles in Maldives.
Dr. Faisal shared an article about the death of 6,000 children in Congo to measles and noted that this was the first time a measles case has been found in the Maldives in quite some time, and added that any missed dozes of vaccination should be completed at the soonest. He also highlighted that it would be difficult to treat once the disease is found in a patient.
The doctor noted that the only way to prevent measles is getting vaccinated from the two vaccines available — the MMR vaccine and the MMRV vaccine.
