A large portion of a residential house has been damaged in a fire incident in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Madaveli.
The fire incident took place this morning at the house named “Naares”. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire.
MNDF said that the fire was reported at 8:20 a.m. this morning and four of the six rooms of the house were destroyed while the remaining two rooms were heavily affected by smoke.
Vice President of the Madaveli Island Council, Azam Mohamed told One Online that there were two women and two children inside the house at the time of the incident. And since the house has been damaged beyond use, the residents have been moved to a relative’s house.
Councilor Azam said that the investigation so far indicates that an electrical short to be the cause of the fire. Although the house itself was damaged, a number of goods inside the house were saved with the help of the public.
Madaveli Island Council is working with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to provide assistance to those affected in the fire.
