Maafushi Island Council has issued a notice saying that under the authority of the new amendment to local government act, the council orders the removal of all the safari yachts in its jurisdiction.
And so, if any safari yachts are in the Maafushi jurisdiction, they are to be removed by 2 p.m. this Friday.
The Maafushi Council said that the remaining vessels will be removed from the area and either destroyed or sold in auction and would not be responsible for any damages during removal.
With the new amendment to the local government act, the jurisdiction of the Island Councils extends to a 700 meter around the island.
If a resort or an industrial island is in that area, such a place will not count as part of the council jurisdiction.
