Maldives Correctional Services (MCS) has revealed that no altercation has occurred between those who are remanded at Maafushi Prison and the prison officers.

MCS made the statement in connection to allegations levied against them on social media, which claim that prison officers had beaten those remanded in Unit 4 at Maafushi Prison which escalated into a bigger fight.

The statement by MCS however noted that those were remanded did throw their food at the prison officers, which however was met with patience on the side of the prison officers who had advised them to not do such things.

They further added that those in remand have been expressing their disappointment due to prolonged remand duration as well as lack of medical attention as they - concerns which are reflected by MCS as well.
