New Sea Plane terminal will cost USD 26 million, will be operated by MACL

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed that the new seaplane terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) will cost upwards of USD 26 million, and that the terminal will be operated by MACL.

In a tweet sent out today, MACL refuted claims by local media that the seaplane terminal costs USD 55 million. As such, the company noted that the total cost of the new VIP building and the Seaplane Terminal in total amounts up to USD 26 million.

The company further added that both the buildings will be operated by MACL. For the Seaplane terminal, slots will be rented out to individual airlines for their needs.

MACL further highlighted that the new complex includes four floors for the seaplane terminal and one floor for a VIP lounge. The building is designed to enable multiple operators to function within the same terminal.

The new seaplane terminal is expected to be complete by the second quarter, and once in operation will become the biggest seaplane terminal in operation in the entire world.
