Maldives Police Service has revealed the details of murdered taxi driver, Qasim Hassan.

Adhuham Mohamed had confessed to the murder of Qasim and had revealed the details of how the crime unfolded during the police investigation.

Police revealed that Adhuham had first tried to rob Qasim at knife point but things escalated when Qasim took hold of the knife and tried to scream for help. It was then when Adhuham had attacked Qasim.

They added that even though Adhuham has confessed to the crime, the case will not solely be built upon his confession. As such, Police stressed that they will take into account several other evidence when prosecuting. They have already checked 103 footages from 67 places in Male' and Hulhumale' as part of their investigation.

The construction site of FW Construction on the same street as the murder did include security cameras, however they were found to be not working when Police approached to seek the footage as part of their investigation.

Police further added that Adhuham had used drugs before he came to Hulhumale' as well as after his arrival. Adhuham had revealed to the Police that he traveled to Hulhumale' with the intention of robbing, which he failed to do so during the day. After this, he had obtained a knife from a cafe' in Hulhumale' under false pretenses and had gone to Hulhule' with the same intention.

He had then boarded the taxi of Qasim from the airport taxi queue in an attempt to rob Qasim. Adhuham detailed that he had first asked Qasim to drive to the halfway house in Reethigas Magu, but asked him to change direction saying that he did not have the access card since there were too many people on the road during that time.

The second time around, Adhuham tried to rob Qasim at knife point after which he started to scream for help. Adhuham then stabbed Qasim in an attempt to quiet down his screams of help. He had then escaped into the foliage around the area, and hid the shirt he was wearing during the time.

Police further revealed that the case is now being discussed with the Prosecutor General's Office.
