National Preventive Mechanism of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has paid a visit to the Gender Ministry run 'Fiyavathi' Orphanage in Hulhumale' and has monitored the environment where children are taken into state care.

In a press release issued today, HRCM noted that several concerns relating to the facilities at the orphanage were highlighted during their visit to the orphanage. These concerns were then discussed among the commission as well.

HRCM explained that their visit to the orphanage today consisted of further checking up on their concerns and assessing the material conditions of the orphanage. However, the press release did not detail as to what case was being investigated by the HRCM.
