The information conference for island and atoll Councilors chaired by the President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, is set to begin today at the Crossroads.

Talking to One Online, an official from the President’s Office said that the conference is an initiative by the President and the invitation has been accepted by over 200 Councilors and are in the capital for the conference.

The President’s Office said that as major changes to the Local Council Act coming into effect, President Solih wishes the Councilors to be empowered and take advantage of the amendments to serve the people.

The official from the President’s Office that 85 percent of the attendees that accepted the invitation are Council Presidents.

Speaker of the Parliament, the former President Mohamed Nasheed, is set to take part in the opening ceremony of the conference and as a panelist at some sessions along with the UNDP Resident Representative, Akiko Fujii.

President Solih is set to ratify the eighth amendment to the Local Council Act at the conference today.

The conference is being organized by the President’s Office.
