President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that his government will commit to double their efforts to ensure that the values laid out in the UDHR are upheld.
President Solih made the statement via a tweet on the occasion of World Human Rights Day 2019.
In his tweet, President Solih further added that a right violated anywhere, is a right violated everywhere.
"Human Rights are universal and inalienable, because to be human is the most universal of values. On [World Human Rights Day 2019], we commit to double our efforts to ensure that the values laid out in the UDHR are upheld. For, a right violated anywhere, is a right violated everywhere," his tweet read.
Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on 10 December every year.
The date was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly's adoption and proclamation, on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights and one of the first major achievements of the new United Nations.
