Speaker of Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed signed an MoU with the Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Indian parliament) to strengthen the relationship and provide training opportunities for Majlis secretariat staff during his visit to India today.

While President Nasheed signed on behalf of the Maldivian Parliament, Speaker of Lok Sabha Shri Om Birla signed on behalf of the Lok Sabha.

President Nasheed stated that the MoU will focus on establishing an official guideline to promote avenues for improvement in the parliament and its administration. It includes information-sharing and providing and promoting democratic support on international platforms.

President Nasheed is leading the 14-member parliamentary delegation on five-day visit to India next week to seek cooperation between legislatures of the two countries.
