President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has this evening opened the “Fisheries Expo 2019” organized by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture as part of Fishermen’s Day celebrations.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Fisheries Minister, Zaha Waheed said that the purpose of the expo is to showcase the new technology, tools and resources in the industry to all stakeholders.
Minister Zaha said that bringing the products of the different companies under one roof is also a major goal of the expo.
This third annual Fisheries Expo held in the Maldives will continue up to Sunday at the Huravee School in Hulhumale’. Unlike the previous years, all participants in the expo are local companies.
The Fisheries Expo this year is connected to the Fishermen’s Day events. And so, a rod-based fishing experience camp for youth was held today and a fishermen’s forum is set to take place on Sunday and Monday followed by a fish cutting competition on Monday.
Fishermen’s Day is celebrated on 10 December. And so the official function will be held on Tuesday night.
