Ministry of Home Affairs have replied to Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir's request to visit former President Abdulla Yameen who is currently serving a five year prison sentence after being convicted for money laundering.
In their reply to MP Jabir, the Ministry noted that there was no valid basis to let MP Jabir meet with the former President. They also highlighted that no such meeting has been requested by President Yameen either, according to Maldives Correctional Service.
Hence, the Ministry denied permission for the lawmaker to meet with the convicted president.
In his letter to the Home Minister, MP Jabir said that as the leader of DRP he would like to meet with President Yameen and check up on his current situation and had requested to make the necessary arrangements.
