National Airline has commenced scheduled flights to Maafaru International Airport today.
The airport was officially opened by Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam.
Speaking during the event to open the airport, Minister Aslam noted that today marks the commencement of scheduled flights from the airport - which was opened previously. He added that three flights of Island Aviation will operate from the airport daily starting the coming weeks.
Aslam added that the opening of the airport will bring about great economic development to Maafaru and the entire atoll. He also highlighted that the government aims to cut down flight times between each atoll to a maximum of 20 minutes.
Maafaru Airport was developed by an investment of $60 million from the Abu Dhabi Fund.
