The legal team of the former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided to appeal the sentence of USD five million fine and five-year prison time.

President Yameen's lawyer Ali Shah said that the legal team has decided to pursue justice for President Yameen at any cost, and will be appealing the Criminal Court verdict wherever necessary.

Shah further noted that there were several issues with the verdict adding that the Judge had noted points that even the prosecution did not make during the trial. Hence he expressed his belief that he does not believe it is a just verdict.

He also alleged that the arguments by the defense was not taken into consideration during the verdict.
