The number of members in main ruling party, MDP has passed over 50,000 with record figures.

Statistics published by the Election's Commission today revealed that there are currently 53,694 registered members in MDP. Ahmed Akram, Spokesperson for the EC confirmed to "One" that this marks the highest number of registered members in a political party ever in the Maldives.

Opposition PPM came in second with 36,831 while Jumhooree Party came in third with 10,726 and MDA followed with 8,805 members.

The information published by EC reveals that there are currently 10 parties in operation. These are; MDP, PPM, Jumhooree Party, MDA, Adhaalath Party, DRP, Maldives Thirdway Democrats, Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party, People's National Congress and MRM.
