Parliament Committee on National Security Services has decided to look into the accounts of Jamiyyath Salaf regarding the allegations levied on them for funding the murder of former Ungoofaaru MP Dr. Afrasheem Ali as well as funding extremist activities in the Maldives.
The Committee decision was in their report, regarding the investigation into the murder of Dr. Afrasheem by the Death and Disappearances Committee.
The report included a list of organisations that are said to practice extremist ideologies. The list includes Jamiyyath Salaf, the local affiliate of Al-Qaeda as well as ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra.
The report by the committee also included 11 recommendations. Among these recommendations, it appealed to obtain documents regarding the accounts of Jamiyyath Salaf from 2012 till 2018 in addition to their yearly reports in a bit to establish the amount of money that they have used to fund the murder of Dr. Afrasheem as well as extremism.
The recommendations also included to share the relevant information with authorities in order to take necessary action against those who are indicted.
