Elections Commission (EC) has decided to hold the Local Council Elections on April 4, 2020.

The commission announced the date via a statement over its official Twitter. The commission had previously noted that the election will be held in April, however they did not reveal the date back then.

The EC had also noted that the election will cost about MVR 70 million. The EC has also decided to keep ballot boxes in resorts with over 50 voter registrations and jails with over 25 voter registrations.

Ballox boxes will also be kept in foreign countries with over 150 voter registrations.

Applications for the election will open in February 2020.
