The family of the former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, has denied the allegations made against him by the former MP for Dhiggaru constituency, Ahmed Nazim, in his statement to the Presidential Commission investigating deaths and disappearances, alleging a connection between Adeeb and the murder of the MP for Ungoofaaru constituency, Dr. Afrashim Ali.
The President Commission completed their investigation and presented the report to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday; and the government released the report yesterday.
In a statement to the investigation, Nazim alleged that Adeeb tried to detonate an explosive device on a vessel with the former President of Maldives, the current Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed, to prevent him from running in the 2013 Presidential Election.
Nazim also alleged that on the day of the arson attack at Raajje TV, Adeeb sent a message to the former President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom saying that the “mission” has been accomplished.
Following the allegations made by Nazim, a press statement was issued last night on behalf of the family of the former Vice President, by his wife, Mariyam Nashwa stating that Nazim’s statement to the commission was in the spirit of political revenge and to achieve a political motive.
The statement said that the baseless allegations made against Adeeb in the statement are complete lies forged to create an animosity towards the former Vice President.
According to the statement, the report from the commission has made it clear that the allegations being made by Nazim and some other political figures to blame Adeeb for the murder of Dr. Afrashim are complete lies.
The statement also advised not to use Adeeb’s name to achieve a political gain and not use him as a sacrificial lamb at every turn.
