Head of Independent Institutions Commission, MP Rozaina Adam has said that members of the HRCM cannot fill in as senior officials of the Whistleblower Protection Unit formed to protect whistleblowers.

MP Rozaina's statement came after HRCM revealed that they had decided to appoint HRCM Vice President Mohamed Zahir as a top official of the new unit.

The Bill on the Protection of Whistleblowers is one of the first efforts by the administration and was emphasized by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at his Presidential address upon assuming office. The Parliament approved the bill on Tuesday, October 08 with the inclusion of establishing a Whistleblower Protection Unit.

MP Rozaina said that an HRCM member cannot be a top official for the new unit and that the person who is appointed should be answerable to the Parliament individually.
