MNDF: No fire incident, it was a fire drill

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has said that the images on social media that alleges a fire incident is that of a fire drill.

Maldives Police Service, too, have said that a fire drill was conducted by the MNDF in Henveiru, Male’ City, today.

The fire drill today is part of the drill by the MNDF Fire and Rescue Services “Jarraafa 2019”. The exercise was conducted at Foviduge in Henveiru. Vice Chief of Defence Force, Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef visited the scene to observe the drill.

MNDF said that some state institutes along with private companies took part in the drill today. Institutes that joined the drill included the National Disaster Management Authority, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, ADK Hospital and the Maldives Red Crescent.

Exercises in the Jarraafa 2019 were conducted in Male’, Hulhumale’ and Thilafushi area. Fire stations in the different areas joined the drills to test the Fire Emergency Operations Plan currently adopted by the MNDF Rescue Services.
