Criminal Court is set to issue the verdict in the money laundering trial against former President Abdulla Yameen tomorrow, during a hearing scheduled for 1:00pm.

This comes during a time when the issue of Criminal Court Top Judge Ahmed Hailam sharing a Victory Day greeting card, which illustrated former President Mohamed Nasheed and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in chains had become heated both in the parliament and on social media.

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to investigate the issue as a disciplinary case of Judge Hailam. The announcement of the investigation was made by the press statement issued late this morning. The statement said that an emergency meeting of the JSC was held today where it was decided to proceed with the investigation and an investigation team for the case has been established as well.

Closing statements by the defendant noted several points in their defense during the last trial hearing. In addition to this, the prosecutor had also highlighted several points based on the evidence they submitted to incriminate President Yameen.

Former President Yameen is charged with money laundering after he transferred fthe one million US dollars deposited to his account by the SOF Company, believed to be embezzled from the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), to a General Investment Account at the Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) instead of the escrow account with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
