Statistics have shown that the number of cases reported to the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services.

The Ministry released statistics for September 2019 showing a total of 251 cases reported to the Ministry; 83 more cases than August’s 168 cases.

While the number of reported cases has increased, the highest number of cases were in different categories of child abuse cases. And so, a total of 125 cases of child abuse were reported last month.

Statistics show that 37 cases of the 125 child abuse cases are that of negligence.

Other cases include 27 cases of physical abuse against children, 24 cases of sexual abuse, 14 cases of domestic abuse, 12 cases of psychological abuse, four cases of bullying by other children and three cases of child prostitution.

Gender Ministry statistics show cases from eight categories reported in the past month. They are:

  • 125 cases of child abuse
  • 7 cases to violating children’s rights
  • 26 domestic cases
  • 6 cases of crimes committed by children
  • 14 cases of child discipline
  • 41 cases of gender bias
  • 23 cases of assisting elderly and people with disabilities
  • 9 cases of self-harm
