Ministry of Home Affairs have decided hold the official National Day function in Male’ City tomorrow night.

The National Day flag raising ceremony is set to take place on Tuesday morning at the Republic Square. A special flag raising ceremony is set to be held on Tuesday in every inhabited island. The Ministry said that a special ceremony will be held in Untheemu in Haa Alifu Atoll on Tuesday night.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Home Minister, Imran Abdulla will be taking part in the official function.

National Day is marked in the Maldives in remembrance of overcoming and driving out Portuguese occupiers from the country. The hero of National Day; the only national holiday on the Constitution, is Mohamed Thakurufaanul Auzam a.k.a. Boduthakurufaanu. The day is marked on 1 of Rabi Al-Awwal on the Lunar Calendar.
