Criminal Court has set a 15 day remand period for the man who was arrested under the suspicion of recruiting Maldivian jihadists.

The man suspected of being a senior recruiter was arrested last Wednesday during a police operation. Police confirmed that the Criminal Court had set a 15 day remand period for the man.

Sources claim that the arrested man is Mohamed Ameen, who is said to be a terrorist by the United States. The US had classified him as a terrorist and imposed financial sanctions on him last August.

US authorities claim that Ameen is a recruiter for Islamic State in Iraq. He is the first Maldivian to be included on the list of known terrorists by the US.

An Interpol red notice was previously issued to find him, with regards to the terrorist attack in Sultan Park. He was later arrested in Sri Lanka with a forged passport in 2011, but was subsequently released.
