An emergency case has been filed at the parliament floor calling to reveal the names of the people involved in the corruption scandal of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) along with the murders and suspicious disappearances of people.

The case was brought to the floor by the MP for West Henveiru constituency, Hassan Latheef. The emergency case was voted into debate by 42 of the 47 MPs present at the time.

Presenting the case, MP Latheef said that the main reason the public voted for MDP during the 2018 Presidential Election and the Parliament Election in 2019 was to bring the people who stole from the state to justice along with the people involved in suspicious murders and disappearances.

MP Latheef said that state ministers, MPs, court judges and many others are involved in the corruption of MMPRC according to the Prosecutor General.

The MP called for any state official involved even in a small capacity to distance themselves from state responsibilities and be sincere.

He said that along with the murder of former MP, Dr. Afrashim Ali, journalist Ahmed Rilwan and blogger Yaamin Rasheed, a total of 29 murders need to be investigated and take action against the people involved.

MP Latheef said that while the current administration has made a lot of effort to finding the answers in this first year of the term, this is an important time to remember that delays could lose the public trust with the government.
