Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has conducted a Maldivian tourism promotion program under “Sunny side of Life” in London, UK, from 23 September to 6 October.
And so, digital banners of “Visit Maldives” were placed on a number of buses and bus stops along with the Waterloo Station; one of the busiest train stations in London that is used by an average of 94.4 million commuters per year. MMPRC estimates that 3.2 million would have seen the Visit Maldives ad at the station.
Under the promotion program, 40 digital screens showcasing the natural beauty of the Maldives were installed in various parts of London.
Highlighting the progress of Maldivian tourism in the past ten years, MMPRC said that it was a success achieved due to the high number of resorts in the country. And once the development project at Velana International Airport is completed, it can cater to a total of 7.5 million people annually. MMPRC also aims to increase flights from Maldives to London.
UK is one of the largest tourism markets for the Maldives. Statistics show that 83,089 tourists from the UK visited the Maldives between January to August 2019; a ten percent increase from the previous year.
Noting that UK is one of the most important markets for Maldivian tourism, MMPRC said that 7.3 percent of Maldivian Tourism is dependent on the UK and the amount has been increasing annually.
