Maldives Police Service has summoned a number of people regarding their investigation into the controversial report by Maldivian Democratic Network (MDN).

Police confirmed today that they are currently summoning relevant people regarding their investigation and highlighted that they have already sent out chits to various people.

While Police confirmed this, President of MDN Shahindha Ismail noted in an interview given to a foreign media that Police had contacted her to summon her regarding the investigation and that they have been unable to deliver a chit to her since her address is unknown.

The 'Preliminary Assessment of Radicalisation in the Maldives' was issued in 2015 and claimed that the islam books used to teach in secondary grades encourage extremist opinions. It also included several points which were against the Quran and the Hadith. A social media campaign has since kicked off against MDN calling on the authorities to ban them, following which all activities of the NGO were put on suspension.

Police had previously noted that Shahindha was out of country during the time of the beginning of the investigation. Several media reports claim that she is seeking refuge in Germany.
