Reports have confirmed that religious group Salaf had requested for an investigation into Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN) back in 2017.

President of Salaf, Sheikh Abdulla Mohamed had also confirmed the news to 'One Online' today. According to him, the letter requesting an investigation was sent in on February 23, 2017.

He noted that the letter sent to the Home Ministry was also sent to the Islamic Ministry. Back then, the Minister of Home Affairs was Azleen Ahmed and Dr. Ahmed Ziyad Bagir was the Islamic Minister. Their letter noted of questionable acts by the Network and asked to be vary of their activities in the future.

He further added that the letter was submitted along with relevant documents as well. These includes documents that were against the tenets of Islam as well as their works on spreading secularism in the Maldives.
