Defence Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi has said that there are people exploiting technology from the shadows in this modern age.

She made the statement in her address at the largest technology exhibition in the middle east, the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX).

Remarking that technology and social media are useful resources at its core, Minister Mariya said that in this age of numerous security challenge, there are a few people exploiting technology from the shadows.

At the exhibition being held at the Modern Education Stage if the Dubai World Trade Center, yesterday the Maldivian Defence Minister’s address was on the connection among security, education and technology in the 21st century.

In her speech, she said that the Maldivian government has been working to develop a healthy and capable community through modern technology and education without compromising the country’s individuality.

Minister Mariya praised the UAE government for their designs and efforts in E-Government to provide a just and transparent service from state entities through the internet. She said that providing fair service through the internet is part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s zero tolerance policy on corruption.

While Minister Mariya has now concluded her visit to the UAE, she also met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of UAE, Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed al Nahyan where he pledged to assist in the training of the MNDF firemen.
