MET Office has issued a White Weather Alert to a large portion of the country due to the sereve weather.
Maldives Meteorological Center said that the weather alert will be in effect until 4:35 p.m. today to the islands from Haa Alifu Atoll to Laamu Atoll.
Heavy rain and thunder storms are expected at these islands, according to the MET Office, with winds across the country between 5-15 mph.
Weather Alerts are issued in four levels; White, Yellow, Red and Green.
The White Alert is issued to warn caution despite no potential danger while the Yellow Alert indicates possible threat and sea travel is unsafe. The Red Alert calls for immediate evacuation to safety and it is illegal to travel by sea when the alert is in effect. And Green Alerts are issued after the dangers have passed to negate the previously issued alerts.
