Parliament Committee on Human Rights and Gender is set to reach a verdict over the alleged MVR 24 million corruption scandal which involves Moosa Ali Kaleyfaan, a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives.
The issue has been scheduled for the committee meeting scheduled for 8:30pm tonight.
Even though he is a member of the HRCM today, the alleged corruption scandal took place during the time when he was serving as the Director General at the National Disaster Management Center.
Moosa, who had worked at the Disaster Management Center from 2007 till 2010 was appointed as a member to the HRCM in 2015, during the administration of Former President Abdulla Yameen.
The alleged corruption was previously investigated by the Police and submitted to the PG office as well.
Head of the Committee and Hinnavaru MP Jeehaan Mahmood said that independent institutions such as the HRCM should be free from such people. She also added that until such work is done, such institutions will not be able to work as they are supposed to.
