A fishing hook has been caught in the eye of a fisherman.

The incident was reported to the MNDF Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) this morning at 6:30 a.m. Following the report, a vessel of the Coast Guard Northern Area Command was dispatched to the scene.

MNDF said that the hook was caught in the eye of a 42-year-old crewman on the vessel “Handhuvaree” which was fishing eight nautical miles east of Lhaviyani Atoll Dhiffushimaadhoo.

And the man was taken to Lhaviyani Atoll Naifaru at 8:09 a.m. on a Sea Ambulance with assistance from the MNDF vessel for fast treatment.

Talking to One Online regarding the incident, the Manager of the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital confirmed that the crewman who had a fishing hook in his eye was brought to the hospital and now he is in recovery after treatment. However, the hospital is working to transfer him to Ungoofaaru Hospital or Male’ City for further treatment.
