Maldives Parliament has scheduled a special sitting for tomorrow, with the amendment to the Anti-Terrorism Act on agenda.

Parliament noted that the third sitting outside a term will solely focus on working on the amendment to the Anti-Terrorism Act.

While the Parliament Committee on National Security & Foreign Relations had concluded their report on the amendment and submitted it to the Parliament floor, lawmakers are free to submit any revisions by 12:00pm today. While the committee researched on the bill, public opinion was also opened regarding the bill.

The state has proposed several amendments to the act, most of which broadened what can be classified as an act of terror. It also move to criminalise supporting terror groups and spreading their ideologies.

The proposed Bill also seeks to void the right to remain silent as granted by Article 48 (C) of the Constitution of Maldives, for those who are arrested under the charges of terror.
