MNDF advises caution during sea travel

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has advised caution to those traveling by sea during this turbulent weather.

Earlier today, the MET Office issued a Yellow Weather Alert for the islands from Haa Alifu to Noonu Atoll along with a White Alert for the islands from Raa Atoll to Addu City effective until 4 p.m. with gusts of winds expected to be at 45 mph.

MNDF said that the Coast Guard has been receiving a number of reports of different, dangerous incidents at sea and so advises all travelers to take the necessary precautions when traveling and advised to take the weather into account when planning trips and be vigilant of the weather.

They also said that safety and telecommunications equipment need to be secured before starting a journey and inform the relevant parties before setting off.

MNDF also advised that those conducting diving and sea sports events to take the weather into account when planning such events that could pose a potential danger.

And vessel owners need to be more vigilant in draining water from their vessels when docked at sea or in the lagoon.

Any incidents at sea are to be reported to the Coast Guard at the emergency contact 191.
