Following the bankruptcy of one of the largest travel agents in the world, Thomas Cook, Maldivian Ministry of Tourism has established a help desk at Velana International Airport to assist tourists traveling with them to return to their home countries.

The hotlines for the help desk at the Departure Terminal of Velana International are 942-3131 and 722-3131.

The British travel agent, Thomas Cook went bankrupt after they lost their EU funding with the country leaving the EU. It has left hundreds of thousands of tourists stranded all over the world.

Ministry of Tourism issued a statement last night saying that they are working with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to monitor the situation and provide assistance to the tourists who came to the Maldives under Thomas Cook to return to their home countries.

The statement from the ministry said that they are arranging food and accommodation for the stranded tourists.
